Good grief, you knotty thang! RELAX your jaw, shoulders, and forehead.
You are at the computer, minding your business, wondering why your shoulders always have knots in them. Your jaw hurts, and the worry wrinkles are getting deeper on your forehead.
Your children ask you why you look mad, even though you’re not.
Your boss tells you that you should start using that vacation time you’ve accumulated.
Your spouse is avoiding eye contact with you.
You may be tensing your shoulders, grinding your teeth, and looking worried for no reason. What the heck?
We all do it; some more than others. Being in a constant state of tension is hurting your health, knotting up your muscles, and putting wrinkles on your face. As a massage therapist, my clients KNOW they do this, but can’t stop because they don’t realize WHEN they are doing it. It’s such a natural state for most people.
How can we stop this?
When I was a little girl, I was taller than most of the kids my age. I slouched so that I would appear shorter. My mom would always say, “Stand up straight!” and poke her finger in the middle of my back. Although it was extremely annoying, it DID work, and I am eternally grateful! You can do the same thing by setting your alarm to vibrate a few times a day to help you take notice.
Am I grinding my teeth? Tensing my shoulders? Frowning?
Use this time to take a few sloooooow deep breaths. When we are stressed out, we tend to breath shallow. Taking in some life-giving oxygen really helps.
Go ahead and download this image, and have someone text or email it to you as a reminder! Or, if you are a massage therapist, text it to your customers! Get their permission first though. 😉
Stress is a huge problem these days but there is a lot we can do to minimize it. This fun video will also inspire you to take control!
